I experienced quite a range of weather in my 3 days visiting Cheyenne, including a little fog. Many times I’ve been a train crewman forced to run a train at a snail’s pace in fog like this. For safety’s sake it’s sometimes about all you can manage…

1. & 2. UP 8432 comes creepin’ into Cheyenne under cover of FOG!

3. UP 5996 is the rear creeper DP unit.

Ah yes, the reason for "Fog Charts"!

For some humor, consider the title of the biography of an artist most of us admire, covering his World War II years as a P-47 pilot: Fogg in the Cockpit.

Been there done that running Amtrak down the coast at ninety mph in the fog could barely seen the green mist flash past, such is keeping the schedule.

Thanks guys! I do appreciate the nice words. And JB: We continue to find things in common about our respective careers. I remember a night just before Christmas in '79 on a hotshot, 70 MPH train. It was full track speed for 1' 40" with NO delays whatsoever (all green signals). But the fog was one of those nasty 1-2 car length visibility things for the entire trip. For the first in my career I was forced to reassess the idea of being a railfan/railroader. It was THAT scary...
