Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF's Provo to Denver and UP's Boy Scout engine into Denver

This afternoon, Union Pacific's Boy Scout lettered engine UP 2010 was leading the Roper, UT to Denver train (MRONY-06) Eastbound down the Moffat Tunnel line heading into Denver.

BNSF's daily Provo, UT to Denver manifest (H PVODEN1 06) was running ahead of the UP 2010. Unfortunately there must have been some maintenance of way issue as both trains got delayed for over 2 hours somewhere up the line. By the time that the 2010 got down to Blue Mtn. crossing, it was back-lit. Oh well, at least we lucked out with the Sun:}

1)BNSF 7903 is dropping down out of Plainview and heading through Tunnel #1.

2)As the head end of 7903 crosses Blue Mtn. crossing, the rear of the train is seen at the top right of the picture. Sure wish they still ran cabooses:}

3)With only 62 cars, the train was too short for the rear of the train to be seen on the tracks in the background.

4)With TO member "ColoradoRailfan" barely seen at the left of the picture, we both really lucked out with a "sucker hole" of Sun!

5)UP 2010 leads the strange consist that includes beat up C41-8 9450, SD40-2N 1826, SD70m 5033 and C44-9W 9652.

6)Rolling over the East switch at Rocky with some high clouds covering the Sun.

We camped along the DRGW this last weekend in Spanish Fork Canyon (Soldier Summit). The 2010 was in coal service then. We saw it a couple of times. Nice shots. Thanks for sharing.

The 2010 was captive in coal train service for a couple of weeks in Utah, making several trips between the Carbon County area mines and Intermountain Power.

Great catch and amazing pictures. In a way it's sad to see 2010 leave. It's been on coal trains in Utah since mid August to just this last week.
