I hope the WHOLE SYSTEM nationwide gets shut down for a few days.  Maybe then these idiot legislators who pass laws concerning things they have NO CONCEPT or
understanding of will learn a lesson for once.

  I couldn't have said it better!

Is it any wonder people are fed up with the establishment?  I say shut the system down for a week or two and then let these boneheads in Washington feel the wrath of the people.

What are you people even thinking about? Shutting down the railroads for days or weeks will possibly drag the economy to a standstill which will take months to recover from. The Pacific Northwest Ports slowdown was but a hint of what might happen if the railroads close up shop.

If you don't like politicians why do hundreds of millions of people have to suffer even more so you can find joy in political incompetence?

I hope the milk for your Cheerios goes sour.

Oh PLEASE.  They shut the entire government down - didn't learn anything.  Why would expect anything different from the same bunch?

In this case, it sounds like the Legislature is actually trying to address things, and Mr. Obama won't pass it. 
That is a shame, and a turn of the tables, he has been waiting for years to sign something, anything, passsed b the houses.

We will have chaos, so surely the President's party in Congress would finally turn on him and override the veto. After all, in an election year, you would expect politicians to save their own skins.

 

The article headline is downright inaccurate.  The President did not say that he's against the PTC extension, what he said is "We will enforce the law", which is his way of saying to Congress "Get your act together and pass new law because I am not going to pull your chestnuts out of the fire if you sit on your hands."

Prairierailfan hit the nail on the head. If all you read was the 100% innacurate/misleading title of the article, before getting all upset over the matter, I suggest reading the last sentence in the second paragraph: "Benenati declined to comment on whether Obama would sign legislation extending the deadline because nothing has advanced in Congress."

One thing is for sure-  all sides will continue pointing fingers at the other in a circular fashion.  Let's just hope that somebody stuffs it into a boring bill that gets passed on a Friday afternoon, or maybe Wednesday night before Thanksgiving.

My guess is if a shutdown DID occur, it would last about a half a day before an emergency order was put in place to get the trains moving again. 

Just more more opportunity for Obama to blame Bush for his own failures and shortcomings as president....I am so completely fed up with the politics of the Washington "Inside the Beltway" mentality.

You must have read a different article.  Nothing I read said the President would veto a measure to extend the PTC deadline.  He simply said that he would enforce the existing law, as required.  In effect, he was adding his voice to that of AMTRAK and the freight railroads.

The hard deadline is December 31st, 2015. We will see what happens when the railroads announce the TIH embargo around Thanksgiving. With the current Speaker of the House resigning at the end of the month, and the frontrunner deciding not to run, it increasingly looks like we will see whether the House of Representatives really wants to play its part in governing this Country soon.
