The Wisconsin Northern was in place and existing on just a few cars per week long before frac sand trains were in the picture. However, there are now several
of those operations on the 60 miles of leased UP trackage along with other new industries and they are making many track and operations improvements to the line.

The U.S. Silica facility at Ottawa, IL USED to be an on-line customer for CB&Q/BN/BNSF but the Montgomery-Ottawa-Streator line was spun off to Illinois RailNet, now Illinois Railway, part of the OmniTrax family.

Think BNSF regrets spinning off the line? I don't. They're still getting the line haul on all this traffic without the expense of switching the customer and building the trains.
