What 23 years does to an engine.
Author: up8000

1.  On August 20, 1992, a Soo Line Columbia coal load (#882) rolls eastward through La Crosse, WI.  This is powered by two Burlington Northern SD60M's, 9207 and 9241, as the BN owned this contract for coal from Wyoming to Columbia.

2.  23 years later on November 22, 2015, the same engine rolls eastward on CN's Freeport sub in Charter Grove, Illinois leading ethanol load U70691.  Except the NS got this through NRE and it is repainted black and renumbered 6814, one of eight the NS got.

No way in 1992, would I have thought...................

Nice contrast!!  On a different subject, were those types of line side signals unique to the Soo Line?  I've noticed the CP still maintains them today.

Then
============
CP yard - mostly empty
CNW switch for La Crosse industries still in place and in use!

Now
====
CP filled with cars mostly from the sand buiness online
CNW switch and traffic - long gone.

And times were simple then - just hang out by the diamond to see what shows up and pass the time by doing homework.
