A couple of GE "Heavies" leading rock loads on the Austin Sub
Author: PALuvR

As I was driving on the bridge over the UP Austin Sub in Kyle (TX), I noticed a train parked on the main with its headlight dimmed. Upon further investigation, I found it to be a loaded rock train with a pair of C45AH's leading and an SD70M trailing. It was holding the main awaiting the arrival of the 28 Local heading south from Texas Lehigh at the Kyle siding. In checking out the pics, I noticed a slight difference in the two big GE's. UP 2565 has 3 louvers behind the cab and the 8119 only has 2 with a plate between them. Are these the dynamic brakes? I really don't know too much about these units.

2. Side shot of UP 2565
3. Same for UP 8119

About an hour and 15 minutes, I caught those GE's again in Manchaca (MP 190). I grabbed some shots of the engineer's side showing those louvers again.

About 40 minutes later after passage of cement loads out of the Cemex plant at Dittlinger with UP 5860 leading, the MFWSA came south out of the Bergstrom siding. The consist had 3 ex-SP C44AC's, 1 ex-CNW C44AC, a UP C44AC and a UP C44ACCTE. Pretty interesting considering there were 4 "Fallen Flag" units.

7. Southbound into Manchaca with ex-SP 206 leading
8. UP 7176 is a 'real" UP C44AC
9. UP 6318 is ex-SP 280

Great photos, thanks for sharing.
One day I will get out of the house and shot some since Bergstrom is about 2 miles south of my house.
I was playing plumber and putting up Christmas lights today ahead of the rain.

Strange to see new (or newer) GE's in Rock train service! Also due to the lack of coal traffic, the AC4400CW's usually seen in that type of service are now seen systemwide on every type of train.

UP 2565: ROGJV-23 (Rock-Ogden, TX-Melendy, TX)
