Western Railroad Discussion > Crawford Nebraska QuestionDate: 02/09/16 11:58 Crawford Nebraska Question Author: WichitaJct I'm thinking about going to Crawford this summer. I haven't been there in about three years. One thing that that would figure into that would be traffic levels. Decline in coal loadings has been much discussed on this board. I was wondering if anyone had information about traffic levels at Crawford. Has traffic declined a lot? How many trains a day? Thanks for your help.

Regards,DK Date: 02/09/16 15:30 Re: Crawford Nebraska Question Author: wheelnrail I'll be heading to Crawford in May. From what I asked several months ago, it seems the general consensus is its business as usual, minus about 20-30 or so trains/day from its peak.

In other words, traffic is down substantially? wheelnrail Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'll be heading to Crawford in May. Coal is down, but it isn't down "20-30 trains a day" over Crawford Hill. Bill Miller Galt, ON Date: 02/10/16 01:37 Re: Crawford Nebraska Question Author: wpdude Busy as hell when the trains are only making 12 mph uphill! :-)

Depends on what you mean by "down substantially." If you're expecting a train every ten mintues, then you'll be disappointed. However, you can still get three or more trains per hour, loads and empties, plus light helpers. It's still busy, just not as busy as it was. I made these observations at the end of last September when I visited Crawford Hill.
