Western Railroad Discussion > Chasing Trains on UP's Lynndyl SubDate: 02/12/16 21:16 Chasing Trains on UP's Lynndyl Sub Author: mpaul101 Last Saturday a buddy and I were able to take a trip down to UP's Lynndyl Subdivion which is part of UP's LA&SL route.
We railfanned between Lynndyl, UT & St. John, UT. Traffic was busy that day and we were happy to see a lot of trains. Here are some photo highlights (Total of 9 photos). All photos taken February 6, 2016. Photo 1: An auto train running from Argo, IL to Mira Loma, CA (AGBMLD-4) is just about to highball through Strong, UT. The cold morning air carried the roar of the locomotives well as it pulled 80 loads of automobiles. Photo 2: Pictured here is the North Platte, NE - West Colton, CA manifest (MNPWC-4) heading westbound through Lofgreen, UT. Photo 3: MNPWC cont'd Date: 02/12/16 21:19 Re: Chasing Trains on UP's Lynndyl Sub Author: mojaveflyer Date: 02/12/16 21:26 Re: Chasing Trains on UP's Lynndyl Sub Author: mpaul101 Photo 4: MNPWC contd'
Photo 5: UP's 6-day per week Salt Lake - Long Beach intermodal (ISCLB-6) hustles between St. John and Faust. It would soon go into the siding at Faust to meet a hot Z train. Photo 6: The ISCLB seen a little while later at Tintic, UT. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/12/16 21:27 by mpaul101. Date: 02/12/16 21:41 Re: Chasing Trains on UP's Lynndyl Sub Author: mpaul101 Photo 7: A Long Beach, CA to Global 3, IL (KLBG3-6) stack train thunders across the desert in the disappearing light. The train is about to reach the east end of Tintic siding.
Photo 8: The West Colton, CA to North Platte, NE (MWCNP-6) rolls through Tintic on the heels of the KLBG3. Photo 9: Near the end of the train we saw this neat box car art. You never know what you'll see on a junk manifest! Thanks for looking. - Matt Paulson Date: 02/12/16 22:09 Re: Chasing Trains on UP's Lynndyl Sub Author: Utah5005 Awesome photo's Matt! It sure was a blast chasing those trains but as always someone ended up in one of my shots....

Brian Stevens Date: 02/13/16 07:09 Re: Chasing Trains on UP's Lynndyl Sub Author: mojaveflyer How thoughtless of me to give a compliment! By the way, a source of irritation to me are those who don't know how to use the "Check Spelling" at the bottom of the window when they criticize others. Have a nice day!

The inversion in the valleys have been killing my photographic spirit. The Lynndyl has certainly seen an uptick in traffic with the Golden State reroutes. Hopefully UP will keep some of it on this underutilized line. The biggest killer is all the short sidings - if they would extend a few more to the 10,000 foot range they could really increase the capacity of the operation. Unfortunatly with the last few financial reports I doubt UP is looking at much capital work over the next couple years.
