Along the Union Pacific's triple track
Author: MaryMcPherson

I was driving back from filming in South Dakota several years ago, and decided to take the scenic route... U.S. 30.

After overnighting in North Platte, I headed east before stopping west of Maxwell for my first shot of the day.  Traffic was definitely good that day and I followed the railroad to Grand Island; I probably could have gotten quite a bit more if I wasn't meeting friends in Lincoln and spending the night in the Kansas City area.

Even though traffic is down, I would like to make it back that way again some time.

I as well made a trip to North Platte this week. Last Sunday saw 26 trains between Fremont and North Platte. Then Tuesday saw about 15 on the triple track and then spent a few days in Kansas City.

Nice camera work, Mary, made for enjoyable viewing.  Was that last spot Cozad?  Just curious.

Mary

Loved the vid!  What commodity was in the unit train with the grey walls?  I've never seen that before  . . . but then again I live in Canada . . which may explain it.

Nice work Mary. Looking forward to another "fix" of US railroad action this summer on my annual pilgrimage from the UK- the Triple tracks and KC will be on my itinerary, among many other places.

Thanks all!

That unit train was an empty coal train headed back to the Powder River basin.  Also, the last shot was on the west side of Gothenburg.  I did shoot at Cozad later in the day, but none of those shots were included here.
