New commemorative paint scheme
Author: crackerjackhoghead

Itroducing the new "Urban Pride" commemorative paint scheme!

I quess this is who we are as nation now, that this has become totally acceptable. For those who haven't been out here, this is pretty well what all of Los Angeles looks like now and, we're, apparently, contented to live with it.

Hard to believe that presenting the work of the sub human element to all who see your locomotives outweighs the cost of a razor wire fence around a couple of sidings where these units can be stores securely when not in use.

Do the taggers ever paint over the windows, or mess with the engines in other ways?

Yes. Front windshield was painted over when I showed up for work yesterday. I'm gonna have to start carrying a razor and acetone.

In L.A. a new fence in nothing more than a bonus for the crack heads and heroine addicts that will cut up and sell for scrap, anything made of metal.

That mess was not done in 10 minutes either. That engine had to be sitting, unwatched for a long time for that to happen. Where was the UP? How much will it cost to repaint that engine? I am not defending the creeps that did the graffiti, but where was the UP?

The problem is not the UP nor could the UP do much about it really. I posted a photo of a locomotive because this is a railroad forum but, as I said above, the whole city looks like this. The "tagging" has becaome so "accepted" that the taggers are not even bashfull about it anymore. They'll show up in broad daylight with 5-gallon buckets of paint, pulled on a dolly, and paint rollers, with 20 foot extentions, and paint the whole side of a building, and no one seems to care. And, BTW, it is not kids doing this.

The cause is very simple, a lack of respect for other people and their property. Only one thing to blame fundamentally, sh*t parenting...

Simply....too many people in this country.  Too many out of work, too many in the court system, too many coming into the U.S.  What ever happened to "this is my country and I WILL PROTECT IT"?  And on top of this, some bleeding heart liberal will actually call grafitti 'art' and this problem (among many others) just gets worse!  The 'Greatest Generation?  Gone and almost forgotten.  I now step down from my rickety soap box.

Here in the UK we have a very diverse population and culture, which i love and makes our country great. I think the US is very similar but i also think the time is fast approaching when our respective countries have enough people and the sheer size of the population is no longer simply an asset but is becoming a liability and a drain on resources and general quality of life. I've always been a fan of quality, not quantity...and i think so has Mother nature....ooh, contentious!

But try and do something in the legal system, it's full of bottom feeding attorneys just waiting for someone to pound one of the idiots into the ground. Time for a thourogh house cleaning of the judicial system and bring back corporal punishment. Give the bottom feeder attorney who takes the case the same sentence.

They get tagged in the yard too, where there are cameras everywhere and, lets not forget, the units themselves have cameras pointed every which way, which are running 24/7. The problem (after initial problem of disrespect) is a public that doesn't care enough to put an end to it. Other societies would not tolerate it. We do.

I agree. Both parents having to work, even in middle class neighborhoods, has changed everything. When I was a kid, all of the mothers were home and, if you acted up, down the block, someone elses mother would swat you and then call your mother so she could swat you and then you got it a third time when dad got home. There's no one to mind the store now.
