Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF's Newest Unmanned GEO car, #91Date: 06/04/16 14:46 BNSF's Newest Unmanned GEO car, #91 Author: bnsfsd70 On June 2nd, BNSF's newest unmanned track geometry car, the BNSF 91 was run out of Topeka, KS for a shakedown run to Emporia and back. Here, the train is at the depot just minutes before departure. The consist was as follows:
BNSF 6119 BNSF 808382 BNSF 82 BNSF 91 As per Zach Pumphery "This car is former Chicago, Burlington and Quincy coach #341 "Silver Chair", and was built by the Budd Company in March 1954. As originally configured the car featured a snack bar. After Burlington Northern Merger in 1970 it became BN 6143, to Amtrak as AMTK 3921 in 1971, and was lettered for the last several years as RPCX 3921." Before you all freak out, I've heard that the full-length skirting on the car was removed, but retained in the shops for use on the rest of their fleet. I was thinking that the row of solar panels on the roof was an interesting addition. Enjoy, - Jeff Carlson Date: 06/04/16 15:51 Re: BNSF's Newest Unmanned GEO car, #91 Author: bnsfsd70 Date: 06/04/16 16:50 Re: BNSF's Newest Unmanned GEO car, #91 Author: PHall Well, that's one way to keep the batteries charged. Especially if you're not moving.

This car was built in 1949 as one of 2 additional parlor cars for the Twin Cities Zephyr. It also had a drawing room at the A end of the car. Both of these parlor cars were converted to snack bar coaches circa 1968 by the Q for overflow coach passenger food service on the Denver Zephyrs. Sold to the BNSF in the fall of 2015. I stand corrected. My info was from what I compiled online, and I will amend it as such. Was '54 the snack bar rebuild date by chance?
