Western Railroad Discussion > Sunday SoCal smorgasbordDate: 06/28/16 22:19 Sunday SoCal smorgasbord Author: oyw I just had one day off this weekend and even though there wasn’t a lot going on, I tried to make the best of it. I began Sunday morning knowing Amtrak #3 was a couple of hours late so I headed up to Cajon. I could have almost posted this on the passenger board but there were a few freight trains in the mix as well.
1) I scouted around while waiting for Amtrak and grabbed a broadside shot of eastbound BNSF 7970 from the old Santa Fe right-of-way at Pine Lodge. 2) I was hoping to find a “different” location for #3 but ended up with the usual hill shot above Cajon Campground near Blue Cut. 3) Looking the other way, as was mentioned previously here on TO, Pacific Sands and the Tioga Pass bring up the rear. Date: 06/28/16 22:20 Re: Sunday SoCal smorgasbord Author: oyw 4) I had an errand to run down in Riverside so I spent a few minutes at the Ivy St overpass just south of downtown. Here is Metrolink train #859 on its way to a much cooler Oceanside.
5) I ventured back out that afternoon with the goal of photographing Metrolink train #364 after tying up in San Bernardino and deadheading down the “shortway” to their maintenance facility at Rana. Hoping for a leased BNSF GE, I got my wish when 5704 passed through the iconic bridge over the Lytle Creek Wash at exactly 3:30. 6) One last train on the way home when I spotted BNSF’s 1st Kaiser road switcher working the Colombero spur in Rancho Cucamonga. BNSF 188, 187 and 150 with one covered hopper, head for the mainline to return back to Kaiser. That would do it for the day, thanks for stopping to take a look. OYW Edited 1 time(s).
