BNSF /EMD T4 ace's
Author: wpjones

At 12:30 a light power move with one old GE and two new BNSF/EMD T4's were entering Lincoln Yard from the east.
I think the #'s were 1603 and 1604. I did not have my camera and my back up camera buddies failed me so someone else will have to find and get photos.
I think the leader was 1014 maybe 1114

Figures! Where else would they be headed? So these are in BNSF paint or what?

They are in BNSF colors but with EMDX lettering and logos.

Send them to Pueblo, obviously need more testing, they're just like the last ones less two traction motors!
Meanwhile GE happily ships units by the day.

That makes sense since only BNSF and FEC are current owners in the six axle, four traction motor concept.

Heres what I found out. Left Lincoln this afternoon. Past Saronville Ne. about 19:00 this is east of Hastings Ne. Its listed as a J train with destination of Arvada Co.
BNSF1114 leading with 1603 and 1604 trailing.

Passed Irondale CO 0845. May get a crew by 1030. Follow the herd south.

Yep.  That's because GE had a couple-year head start.

EMD wasn’t dragging their feet. Their pockets were empty.
Locomotive development requires the capability of making a serious financial commitment, or, in other words, extremely deep pockets. GE reported that they spent $400 Million to develop the Evolution Series and another $200 Million to bring it to T4; the total amounted to $600 Million.
Look at the history of EMD. In 2005, GM sold EMD to Greenbriar Equity & Berkshire Partners that in turn sold the business to CAT/PRS in August of 2010. I am sure that the T4 development has been a priority for the present owners since day one. Also, given the extent of new development and the fast tracking, I would think EMD’s T4 entry cost is probably twice that of GE.

From what I've heard, EMD bet they could  get the 710 engine to meet Tier 4. I understand that they did, but it was a real fuel hog, so they had to start all over from scratch.

Since to other P4's have been converted back to P6's, I seriously doubt that these are P4's.

No, BNSF 8500-8519 are SD70ACe-P4s.
