Santa Fe Heritage Abounds in Topeka
Author: bnsfsd70

After dinner tonight, I stopped by the ex-ATSF depot in Topeka, KS and found the "GN" 2568 and ATSF 999714 sitting outside.  GP35u #2568 was out there and missing a number of parts, and right now, I'm unsure of whether it's mid-rebuild or being sold off for scrap.  Looming in the background is Santa Fe' old Unclaimed Freight building.

There's a WHOLE lot of Santa Fe heritage here.

Enjoy!

GN 2568 should be going to RELCO for upgrade to GP39-3.

2568 is supposidly one of only two GP35s not rebuilt into the 39-3 program left on BNSF, the other being 2562 already at Relco awaiting rebuild.

Hmm... interesting!  The Topeka shops have been pumping out a bunch of former BN SD40-2's of late.

Romove the bureaucracy from the scene (The "platform only" tag, as well as the new cold font numbers on the locomotive) and you'd be hard pressed to tell if that picture wasn't taken 30 years ago.

For those of you who're interested, here's a better shot of the GN (BNSF) 2568, coupled up with an example of what it's to become.
