It was an interesting afternoon/evening, to say the least. I was headed home from chasing a late SW Chief into Missouri and ran into some typically gnarly Kansas weather. And with a timely heads-up from “mg8711” I managed to bag a couple of trains on the good ol’ KP.

Just another day in the Land of OZ…

1. UP 8556 rolls west with empty grain hoppers at the east siding switch in Wamego, KS.

2. & 3. The 8556 passes over Swamp Angel Rd east of Manhattan, KS under gathering storm clouds.

Thanks for the compliments, guys! I really had to play with the exposures in #1 & #2. In #1 the train was a lot darker than it looks here. It was a bit tricky getting it lightened up while keeping the thunderhead detail. In #2 I left the train dark and concentrated on silhouetting the trees against the thunderhead...
