UP navigating the grade above Hammett Idaho
Author: dag-id

Another trip between Twin Falls and Boise mid July 2016, which I'm so happy that UP makes it a much more interesting drive. I'm not much for driving on the interstate unless I'm in a hurry. Following old highway 30 along the UP mainline makes it so much more bare-able..
Passed a couple of w.b. trains as we were heading west. As luck would have it, my young lady and I had our camera's and lawn chairs and didn't have to wait long.
1st - E.B. manifest coming down grade
2nd - W.B. UP 8143 manifest on the pull up grade
3rd - W.B. Inter-model making the pull up grade look easy

Thank you for taking a look,
David
Twin Falls, Idaho

Any lady who would go out and sit in a lawn chair to watch trains go by sounds like a "keeper"

When my wife and I lived in California we took a few trips to the Tehachapi Loop and she absolutely enjoyed watching the trains.

And I suppose a lady who had a husband/boyfriend who enjoyed shopping would consider him a "keeper" too.

Impressed.  If she also fly fishes and likes barbecue, let me know.

Medbury Hill.  My home route. I actually came down that hill eastbound on a stack train at about 1 am this morning. Did you happen to go over and look at the old route with its swichbacks and horseshoe curve?

Yes, they sit in the husband waiting area looking at TO on their phones.

Wife and my daughter absolutely love to chase trains. Fishing not quite so much...
Wife very upset when she wasn't able to make the Blue Mountain trip with my daughter, brother, father and I at the end of June.
I will have pictures from the Blue's fairly soon. Been trying to get the video put together, but continuing to have problems.

That exact spot is my #1 favorite rainfanning location around that area.
I have many locations scouted out around Medbury Hill on up to King Hill.

My wife has a male family friend that loves to shop but we have yet to figure out which side he is hitting from if you get my drift.

I used to go shopping with my wife.  Often I would go to the tools department at Sears, or a book store looking for railroad books, or photo books.  Some of the girly stores had "Husband waiting areas" out front and I would camp there on occasion.  She didn't mind if I went chasing trains.  Marriage is a give and take if you want it to work.  Ours worked for nearly 39 years.  Alzheimer's took her away from me.  I still miss here every day.

Your lady sounds like a keeper.  Just one question.  Does she have a truck?  Four wheel drive is a plus.  It will take you where a car can't go.  It will also get you stuck further off the road than two wheel drive vehicles.
