Burlington Green Diamond dining car

The owner of this wants to get rid of it.  Is there anything "historic" about this car?.

BN and "Green Diamond" have no connection.  The Green Diamond was an Illinois Central streamilner operating between Chicago and St. Louis.

It looks to me like its ruined as far as historical value.
It likely was no prize as had been in MofW service when it was retired

Would be good as a "parts" car. Maybe...

Car ID'd as CB&Q Silver Top on RYPN.

Missing a coupler and truck on the B end.

Back in  February of 1970, my big brother took me on a quick trip on the California Zephyr before it was discontinued. We rode the "Nebraska Zephyr" from Omaha to Creston, Iowa.  The short consist was a CB&Q E unit and Silver Top, a snack bar coach. An employee in the back of the coach area had his small counter and galley/grill. He would prepare sandwiches including hamburgers, served with potato chips, etc.  This represented the food service in the BN era for the Nebraska Zephyr.  The trip was fun and the burger was delicious.

At Creston, we went across the street to the cinema and watched the movie "Change of Habit" starring Mary Tyler Moore and Elvis Presley.  After a walk around town and waiting past dusk, the "California Zephyr" rolled in.  The train was busy and we went back to the "Cable Car Room" for a beverage after boarding and presenting our tickets, then quickly went to one of the Vista Dome chair coaches for the ride back to Omaha. Folks from points east were using many of the dome seats as a place to sleep for the night.

While brief, it was a superb trip and it all began on Silver Top!  I remember the CZ very well, the movie, not so much.
