Western Railroad Discussion > Miss Katy and NS Savannah & Atlanta on the Austin Sub

I got word that a couple of Heritage units were coming through Central today - the UP Katy and NS Savannah & Atlanta. Crews were called for about an hour apart this morning so I headed down to San Marcos hoping to catch them in more open spaces than I have closer to home.

There are a total of 11 pictures

1. A NB "Z" train from 8/24/16 at Bergstrom with UP 8437 and 7877 for power
2. First train through San Marcos was ZMXYC-25 with UP 5069, 6762, 4256 and 8419

Next NB ZLDYCC-26 came through at 12:30 with UP 4172, 1988 and 6569.

Rock loads out of Ogden came through at 12:55.

6. Power was UP 2569, 8012 and 5231. The 2569 looked to be fresh out hauling trains through tunnels out west.
7. Appropriate reporting marks
8. Back in Manchaca awaiting the NS unit, the first one through was CEMEX loads out of Dittlinger with UP 6660 and 6632

And finally at 16:45, ALDASB-25 came through Manchaca. I was really hoping for a morning shot in San Marcos with all the open space. But sadly, it was not to be.

9. I was surprised to not find the S & A unit on the head end. Was hoping that at least it was on the rear.

Nice catches---well worth the trip to get the Heritage Units from 2 different roads.

Love the S&A unit. Savannah has a special place in my book - I was stationed there - Sua Sponte!
