Western Railroad Discussion > Anti Coal Protest in Bellingham , WADate: 08/28/16 11:06 Anti Coal Protest in Bellingham , WA Author: BN4364 This is on the Bellingham sub North of Seattle. After they cleared this guy, three people had chained themselves to the train in the background. This caused a Two Amtrak trains and the Rocky Mountaineer to be delayed and the passengers had to be bussed to their destinations.

Seems that they don't want any type of fossil fuel to generate electricity, would be nice, but not practical. Wind and solar each have their positive and negative environmental and cost issues. One day house roofs will be solar panels and generate power for the house and feed excess into the grid. Fine when the sun shines. Issues on cloudy days. Maybe some day there will be cost effective fuel cells. No perfect answers right now. How much "fossil fuel" did the delay on the railway and emergency responders burn / waste let alone the bustitution dealing with this guy? As far as chaining themselves to the train, "Conductor to the Engineer okay to pull"!!! Doug

I remember back in the 1960's when they were protesting the nuke trains running through here (Shelton, WA) - I knew the engineer on most of the white trains. Often times he had a state patrolmen with him in the cab. His instuctions to him were "what ever you do, DON'T STOP".

Even in the '60's the legal and civil implications in even a sliver of that suggestion would boggle the rational mind. Date: 08/28/16 13:03 Re: Anti Coal Protest in Bellingham , WA Author: fehorse1 I remember about that same time (in the 60's), a Navy crew ran over a guy chained to the rails in California. It cut both of his lergs off!
Date: 08/28/16 13:09 Re: Anti Coal Protest in Bellingham , WA Author: monaddave Both Cascades, Nos 516 & 517 were probably full yesterday and the Rocky Mountaineer had close to 150 pax. So there's upwards of 600 people that their cute stunt forced to ride fuel-guzzling busses and how never again to ride a train. Add the thousands of dollars in recrew and bus costs to Amtrak and Rocky. The misfits who did this had to get there somehow, they weren't walking or pedaling.

Date: 08/28/16 13:37 Re: Anti Coal Protest in Bellingham , WA Author: HotWater So why can't the police, FBI, Federal Marshals, RR Special Agents, or County Sheriffs remove that idiot? He IS trespassing, right????? The railroad MOW folks could pull that piece of scrap iron out of there in minutes.
Date: 08/28/16 13:40 Re: Anti Coal Protest in Bellingham , WA Author: boomer Oh shut the heck up, if you can't understand that was a joke then you don't have the responsibility to be on the internet. I work freight, I deal with a handful of people....all who work for the railroad. They've never provided me customer service training or people skills, so get over it.
Well, I guess they did do an approaching others video a time or two. That might count. fbe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > boomer Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > If I didn't come in on a restricting I don't > see > > any reason to stop... > > > > Posted from Android > > > > If that is the case you don't have the > responsibility to be in the cab of the locomotive. > Find a quiet job in a private cube where you don't > need to deal with people. The consequences to a crew who willfuly ran over a person on the tracks would be lifelong. The railroad would terminate their employment. Law enforcement would arrest them, prison time would be assessed and survivors would sue them for any assets they might have. Grow up before you hit the (JOKE) button.
