Vernon, Illinois Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 08/28/16 14:29 Re: Above NRE Mt. Vernon, Illinois Author: ns2557 Thanks for sharing this view. I get by here every once and awhile and park pretty much where it seems you did. Nice to actually get a feel for what one can not see from the ground.
Over the times I have been here I have always wondered what the 2 units in the btm right of shot 1 and 3 are. They are International Units, meaning non US and probably Euopean or Mid East. Any ideas as to what they are? Perhaps EMD G8/G12 or something similar? They have more of a GE type body style tho, so that might be a stretch on the EMD. Great shots. have been produced?............Swede...........Albany,Or. Date: 08/28/16 16:23 Re: Above NRE Mt. Vernon, Illinois Author: ns2557 HB90MACH Wrote:

There web site lists this as a "new" unit. The shot located there, looks similar to this one. Ben Date: 08/28/16 18:50 Re: Above NRE Mt. Vernon, Illinois Author: MrMRL Great captures! So that's where BNSF 1312 went... Should make a good final resting place for BNSF 1300 soon as well.

Eric Date: 08/29/16 03:36 Re: Above NRE Mt. Vernon, Illinois Author: 9E56 They're former Queensland Rail (Australia), 1460 class G12 locomotives, built in Brisbane between 1964 and 1968 and fitted with 1310 horsepower EMD 12-567C engines. For almost 30 years they worked on QR's 3'6" gauge main lines on freight and the occasional passenger train. After withdrawal, some were sold to Tranz Rail in New Zealand, including these units.

I saw the Tranz Rail on one of them, just didn't know who that was. Didn't even think of Aus/New Zealand. U have answered a question for me that I have been looking for quite some time. Take Care. Is it the place where old engines go to die? Rebuild? There's such a variety and they are scattered thither and yon. Nice photos and very different than what we normally see here. Eric |
