Interesting point, I read it as the train had been patched prior to the next crew being called ie
patched by some other crew still on the clock. Probably isn't right because it does sound like
they're very crew short, just thought it was an interesting comment on their paperwork.

It would be interestng to hear this train pound out of Mankato and up the hill with the some 100 cars
for Winona and Bensenville.

What you caught was what used to be, and probably still is, called
the "Bentonite Turn" which runs at night.  It goes out to the two
bentonite facilities at Colony and comes back to Belle Fourche in
the early AM.  From there it goes to Rapid City where it's turned
into a train to Huron.  

The train mentioned in this thread originated in Huron for points east.  

Good catch on the Bentonite Turn.
