Herding horses across the KP
Author: santafe199

Yesterday I got a heads-up from ‘mg8711’ on a herd of lite engines galloping over the KP through our hometown of Manhattan, KS. I almost passed on this stampede, but the weather was good and the sunlight was perfect for shooting anything moving east. So I moseyed out to Swamp Angel about 4 miles east of town to get a few shots. Then I saw what was on the tail end. So I ended up giving a little chase, and there went another full day of scanning…

If anyone is interested, here is the entire consist: UP 7185, 8496, 2572, KCS 4660, UP 7285, 3850, 7495, 7779, UPY 1454, 1468, 1409, 1445, 1378, 1419, 1443, 1439 & 1072 carrying a FRED.

1. UP 7185 is the lead pony in this rolling remuda at the ‘CK Processing’ elevator east of Manhattan, KS.

2. It was a pleasant surprise to see a KCS Belle (4660) in consist…

3. …and the 9 switchers at the rear end of the ‘roundup’ seen here at Calhoun Bluffs NE of Topeka, KS.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Cool photo of all the power like that.  Headed east I guess is bad because the switchers are headed for auction???
