Any idea why it followed the route of the yellow trains?

BNSF bnrings the trains from Seattle to Lake Yard in Portland, where UP takes over.  There have been about one a week for at least a couple of months now.  Soem have CN power instad of BNSF power.

At Eugene, they will slip four or five untis in mid-train for the climb over the Cascades.

Aha, thanks for the reply, the reference to CN rings a bell.

It is puzzling.

There was a southbound grainer on the Oregon Trunk through Bend on Sunday afternoon
and a second one today, Monday, right about 5 pm.
Today's train was 4x2 for power.

It's not like there isn't physical capacity to run them all on the Oregon Trunk.
There must be some other reason.

I'm guessing they're UP trains because they're going to locations on the UP or off of the UP on former SP branchlines.
