Western Railroad Discussion > Busy Evening on the Kansas PacificDate: 09/25/16 19:26 Busy Evening on the Kansas Pacific Author: nwkrailfan Trains across western Kansas are few and far between...whether it be on the shortlines or even the Class 1's. While spending vacation time back home this evening in western Kansas, I was pleasantly surprised to find a few trains to shoot! Catching one train in good light on the KP is a feat...let alone three in a two hour period. Here is a few photos of the action this evening.
1) UP 6578 a 19 year old AC4400CW looks splendid in a fresh coat of Armour Yellow as it rolls uphill with an empty coal drag near Riga, KS. 2) Rolling past some good looking milo, the 6578 crosses Riga Road and rolls past the elevator and towards a meet... 3) ...with an eastbound loaded rail train. 6578 has popped out from behind the rail train as it continues westward up along Riga siding. ... Date: 09/25/16 19:26 Re: Busy Evening on the Kansas Pacific Author: nwkrailfan 4-5) The 6578 west featured a hodge podge collection of old company owned steel cars.
6) On the move, UP 4856 rolls downhill out of Riga and towards Salina allowing a pacing shot. ... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/25/16 19:29 by nwkrailfan. 8) An hour later, the UP 4683 rolls along with the MSIDV-25 as it crosses a small bridge east of Riga. 9) With a high green at the west end of Riga siding the quartet of SD70M's roll uphill into the gathering Kansas darkness. Thanks for looking! nwkrailfan Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/25/16 19:32 by nwkrailfan. Date: 09/25/16 19:56 Re: Busy Evening on the Kansas Pacific Author: santafe199 You're sharp as ever! Great light on that S-curve. I gotta mosey out there and do that shot one of these days...
