Temple, TX Rail Symposium, Saturday, November 5th
Author: Eagle22

The Railroad and Locomotive Historical Society, founded in 1921, nationally known for its contributions to the preservation and interpretation of North American railroad history will be holding a Railroad Symposium on Saturday, November 5th 10 AM to 4 PM on the 3rd Floor of the Temple Public Library, 100 West Adams Avenue, Temple, TX.

Normally held as an annual event in Bryan-College Station, the South Central States Chapter has made it possible to bring together a team of rail experts to discuss a wide variety of railroad industry topics. Well known railroad photographer and frequently requested by the Class I railroads for his high quality photographs, Ken Fitzgerald, will be sharing his work documenting the Fort Worth and Western Railroad between Ft. Worth and San Angelo, TX.  Union Pacific representatives will be sharing, for the first time, the railroad’s plans to build the largest classification yard in Texas, to be located in Mumford (near Hearne). Temple, TX is a major division point and location of three mainlines that come together. BNSF will be discussing how trains are serviced, repaired,   and classified to other destinations.  An Amtrak district manager will give an update on its trains: “Texas Eagle”, “Heartland Flyer”, and “Sunset Limited”. Finally, the director of the US Army, Ft. Hood railroad operations center will discuss the process of preparing and moving equipment by rail between US bases or to a seaport for further shipment overseas.

Your ticket to this unique and rare event is $25 per person ($20 RLHS members) and includes a catered lunch. Reservations may be made by including your contact information (full name, mailing address, telephone/e-mail) along with your check to the following address: South Central States, RLHS, Attn: Jeremy, PO Box 725, Little River-Academy, TX 76554.
