UP Intermodal on BNSF Ottumwa Sub?
Author: Agent

I saw an eastbound intermodal train on the BNSF Ottumwa Subdivision at Agency, Iowa about 4:23 this afternoon.  I didn't get a picture though.  It had three Union Pacific engines on its head-end.  It also had containers usually seen on UP trains instead of BNSF (Hub Group, UMAX, etc.).  Is it possible it's a detour train?

Just eavesdropping on Rochelle and vicinity it appears two westbound Z trains out of Chicago on the Geneva Sub are turning down the Peoria Sub at Nelson right now.

Can UP run down from Marshalltown to Eddieville and get on BNSF there? The only train I have seen this evening was an Eastbound double stack through Boone. Just wondering. Thank you in advance!

UP trackage ends at Eddyville before the Cargill plant, the track from there to BNSF is owned by Cargill. I suppose you could run a train through if need be but I'm not sure it's ever been done.

Detours?  Maybe due to the flooding on the Clinton Sub at Cedar Rapids.
No trains up here on the UP all day long.

The reroute UP train was ordered out of Creston, IA yesterday. I'm not sure what location it got onto the BNSF.

The UP would have gotten onto the BNSF at Omaha.

At one time, the UP track ran to Maxxon which is on the northeast corner
of Albia, IA, and there was and intererchange there with BNSF.  The BNSF
track to Eddyville was built in the late 90's, I believe.  The UP track that
ran south of Eddyville was ex-M&StL but I don't know if it's still there.
I was unaware the UP had closed in the Cedar Rapids area, although that
is possible.  (FWIW, I'm out of town right now and can't follow developments.)
I would highly doubt they'd interchange anything there.

That would put them on the Transcon at Edelstein, and that's not an unusual move.  UP has trackage rights on BNSF to Kansas City.
