Tijuana Baja California - Turno Valle Redondo Chase
Author: erielackawanna

Was able to chase the Baja California Railroad trains this past Thursday despite running into a bit of trouble with security. When we first arrived we were called in by the conductor and security came and told us we can't photograph their property. After a bit of back and forth (and being called in a second time) we actually got security to stop following us when the local police also stopped and told the security guard that it was legal to take train pictures in Mexico. So there you go!

First three shots are of the Interchange Job running light to pick up the day's train (out of frame, around the curve).

Next two shots are taken from a Calimex parking lot with the River Disrict in the background as the train heads over a grade crossing below. It looks like the crossing is going to be grade separated though.

Next three images are all taken as the train stops to work Z Gas.

Here are three shots taken from Rodrguez Dam in La Presa of the train going over the Tijuana River and then coming out of the short tunnel on the other end.

One more shot of the train going away. We ended our chase here as the train turned into a bad coming-out-of-the-sun angle just past here and we all had to get back home at a decent time.

Thanks for looking.

It seems odd that the phrase on the locomotive is in English.

I assume that propane originated at Torrance or Carson refineries.

When Iworked the car desk at Hobart and Watson yards a lot of it came from Hardisty, Alberta.

These are the people that spent $30,000,000  repairing and upgrading the Tijuana-Tecate line?  And now, propose to raise funding and open the SDAE-PIR desert line. Doesn't look good from here.

Always curious about all those tank cars in and out of San Diego on the BNSF.  Suspected a lot of them were Mexico bound.
Hardisty, Alberta appears to be on the CP.  What routing do cars take to get from there to here?

This was about thirty years ago but I seem to remember the routing was CP-Kingsgate / Eastport-UP-Barstow-ATSF
