When sunglasses don't work!
Author: santafe199

This will be a familiar, but certainly not a fondly remembered scene to many of you train service types here in TO. It’s that time of the day when otherwise normally life-giving sunshine is a complete pain in the seat cushions to a train crew. Sunrise or sunset, no matter. It’s just no picnic having to look directly into Mr Sol while running your train…

Thanks for looking!

PS: Did ANY of you spot the clear signal about ¾ of a mile down main #1?
(see what I mean... :^)

Had this experience many times in San Diego over the years. Running WB into the sun was not fun.

That is a gorgeous photo, Lance!  I acree completely -- IOTD!!

Yup -- at times like that, sunglasses are no help at all.
I finallysaw the green signal, but it wasn't easy to see --
and my eyes were not dazzled by Mr. Sol.

Back in the day I remember crews on the SP that ran where the alignment was into the sun quite often would hold a piece of cardboard with a small opening to try and cut the glare enough to discern the signal color while lamenting the passing of the old semaphores.
Great image anyway.

In flying, it's always the copilot's leg into the sun or you are a lousy Captain.

As soon as I saw the picture I thought, that's got to be Lance. I like your willingness to shoot all things railroad.

Thank you, guys! All of those nice words are very much appreciated!!!

You sir, have hit the nail on the head concerning my railfan photography philosophy. I can shoot a perfectly lit 3/4 wedgie with the best of them. But I refuse to be restricted & shackled down so narrowly. There's a whole "trainload" of ways to get RR photographs and I've always had great fun in exploring these ways. This now includes using new & evolving digital photographic technology such as pushing the ISO envelope to get action shots in extreme low light situations. Even though moar & moar immature, 3rd grade mentalities around Kansas City (& now Topeka) think they need to be mean spirited about it, I will keep shooting & sharing, (in any style) anything that catches my eye...
