Western Railroad Discussion > A Rare One . . .Date: 12/01/16 08:04 A Rare One . . . Author: SCKP187 Working on rental property every day this month I havn't got out the normal amount to railfan, with the exception of the KCS Starling Express and a Heritage Unit and some foreign power.
Yesterday warranted getting out to shoot another one-of-a-kind (maybe 10 of-a-kind in this case) as UP 7000 came through the area. GECX Demonstrator 4000 C44AC that came out in UP yellow but has no UP lettering with yellow patches covering the GECX on the long hood on the engineer's side, on the fireman's side the GECX lettering is faintly showing through. 1&2. UP 7000-5856 CNAWB (White Bluff AR coal--which means it will be returning this way in a couple of days) at Braggs OK 11-30-16 3 UP 7000 8-1-15 pulling mt stored coal cars out of Inola OK I've shot this unit 3 times over the years---always seen it in coal service. Thanks for looking Brian Stevens Date: 12/01/16 09:48 Re: A Rare One . . . Author: Ritzville Nice catch Brian! I see your weather is still nice and sunny.
Larry Date: 12/01/16 11:31 Re: A Rare One . . . Author: fbe This unit also has been renumbered. Given the UP herald on the nose my guess it is now a UP locomotive. The blue card on the back wall of the cab would tell.
Date: 12/01/16 13:09 Re: A Rare One . . . Author: bnsfsd70 I don't believe that those were demos, but rather purpose-built leasers. I could be wrong on this. Regardless, nice to catch one on the point like that.
- Jeff Carlson Date: 12/01/16 13:19 Re: A Rare One . . . Author: atsf5704 UP purchased the ten GECX warranty-protection AC4400CWs, GECX 4000-4009 on January 30, 1998 and renumbered them as UP 7000-7009 between December 1998 and April 2001. Each seemed to be renumbered in a unique manner. 7000 got a patch over the old number and GECX, but just had the new number and a UP shield added. 7002 got the patches and Union Pacific lettering as well as the new number. 7004 got just a "7" over the 4 instead of a full number patch and UP lettering. Finaly in 2016, 7001 at least has given a full Building America paint job.
1) GECX 4000, three months old at South Morrill, Ne. on 6-17-97. 2) UP 7004 with a new long hood section from another UP AC4400CW. Climbing Logan Hill with an empty coal train at Steckley Road in Wyming on 6-16-16. 3) UP 7001 in full UP Bullding America paint at West Colton on 9-17-16. Edited 1 time(s).
