Yesterday, "santafe199" invited me along with him to Topeka to see Mr. "wag216" about an upcoming thread they'll be teaming up on to present here. After visiting with Art, Lance and I ventured down to the Transcon hoping what had been a cloudy morning would be a sunny afternoon and evening. We managed 3 trains under full sunshine on what was a rather quiet couple of hours on the Emporia Sub.

1) Seconds after a cloud shadow moved out of the scene (how often does THAT happen), BNSF 4349 leads a 12,000 foot stack train west at Shawnee Heights Road between Quenemo and Melvern, KS.

2) Further west at Ridgeton, another westbound intermodal is seen at Wanamaker Road climbing up here to the highest point on the Transcon between Emporia and Kansas City.

3) Minutes before sunset, BNSF 4051 charges east towards Ridgeton with another intermodal in tow.

Interesting that the head end of the train is single-stacks? Wonder why . . .

Yes, two units mid-train and one on the rear.

Coincidence (and weight) most likely. It had quite a few singles.
