Western Railroad Discussion > UP Re-routes via the LA&SL/Tehachapi?

Haven't heard anything about the possibility of UP running FRC/Donner freight train re-routes via Las Vegas and Tehachapi.  I'm hearing both Donner and FRC are closed and will likely be closed the next 48-72 hours.

Any confirmed info out there??

Work window are back on Tehachapi. Monday was until 16:00 hours and today there is a window.

The work windows will be scaled back if there are detours.  That is the word going around.

Just heard from a friend and there will be some BNSF trains detouring via the LA&SL.

The UP was running a ZLAG1D detour thru Tucson and presumably GSR over the weekend.  Issues with Overland route as well? 

Id love to see Amtrak 5/6 over Tehachapi. :)

When was the last time the rotaries were used over Donner?

 The Donner ROtaries were last used on Donner in 2011 March.

They don't have enough crews in Bakersfield to detour a significant number of trains. They might get a few by, but with how short the extra boards are kept it won't take much of a hiccup in that small pond to make a big ripple and cause massive board chaos. Not that it ever stopped them from trying in the past.

It is really quiet up here in Nebraska, noticed only a couple trains across the Blair Cutoff today.

Donner is not closed, yet. Both tracks were out of service this morning for the spreaders (as is standard operating procedure) but at least six trains (that I know of) came over Donner today (including a westbound grain load, re-routed off the FRC).

I monitored the following items a little while ago.
This info from the Sacramento ROcklin CA radio feed at Bradcastify
More problems and more closures indeed :

DS 74 says Mudslide Main 2 at MP 118.2 on Donner Roseville SUb as of 9:30PM tuesday 1-10-17 (near ROCKLIN).

MP 73.99 Fresno SUb Water OVER the Tracks per RMCC report to train dispatcher. Heard on ROCKLIN feed at 9:16 PM pst 1-10-17

Major Landslide at MERLIN in FRC at mp 247 area. Siding is BLOCKED and will be very CLOSE clearance for mainline Passage. 
info as of 9:39PM on 1-10-17 tuesday.

Something was just reported by Truckee CHP stating a major avalanche near Donner Pass Road.   Don't have any further info.   With the amount of snow they have been getting all day, plus what's coming, it's only going to get worse.

Three SJV grain trains have been detoured on the LASL to go over Tehachapi.

Never going to happen. Amtrak will continue to turn the train at Reno, and bus Calif psgrs to their destinations -- IF the interstate is open to buses.
