What has been alluded to but not stated in this thread is that the senior Mr Bush has been admitted to a hospital in Houston with complications related to pneumonia, and is in intensive care. Let's hope 4141 cools its heels in Little Rock for some time to come. Elizabeth Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/18/17 16:44 by Betsy. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 01/19/17 05:56 Re: 4141 Author: Lackawanna484 The 4141 story is certainly a strange one.
How many hundred thousand revenue miles have its sister units pulled since this unit was painted and stored? Not unlike having a brand new, 1998 Porsche in your garage, up on blocks. Five thousand miles on the meter. Date: 01/19/17 06:37 Re: 4141 Author: jlcKS Nothing unusual about putting cars in storage, I know lots of car folks who have them with under a hundred miles on them. They even make products, like special gasoline and oils that are shelf stable, so you can let them set for over a year before you even start them.
IIRC they are planning a funeral train for Bush 41 with the 4141 on point. Date: 01/19/17 08:16 Re: 4141 Author: MW810 Though it's a 2 million dollar or so one.
A drop in the bucket so to speak for a company the size of UP Date: 01/19/17 08:42 Re: 4141 Author: Cumbres I have never understood why Bush 41 has this honor and other presidents ahve not been so honored by UP. I have always wondered what the connection is. Anyone know?
Date: 01/19/17 09:06 Re: 4141 Author: WyoRail The Bush family and UP have old connections.
Prescott Bush (George HW Bush's father) was a partner in Brown Brothers Harriman, the investment bank run by the Harriman Brothers. They had met while attending Yale. So he was friends with UP's Chairman of the Board, although that was 70 years ago. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/19/17 09:45 by WyoRail. There's a more contemporary puzzle piece that I'm surprised no one seems know (even though I mentioned it few years ago already). Former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney, who served under Geroge HW Bush joined Union Pacific's Board of Directors in 1993. I believe he stayed on until George W. Bush got elected in 2000, then he went back to government. |
