Foolin' around with Fog & Fill-Flash
Author: santafe199

Late last summer I got an early start to another day pursuing my favorite hobby: railfan photography in the Kansas Flint Hills. As the night became early morning in Strong City, KS a thick fog was present. In between trains I played around with different scenes & exposures. All shots were on a tripod, some with added fill-flash. The flash scene below is dominated by highly reflective paint on the siding ID sign. But just a few dozen yards beyond the signal is the tree line, almost invisible in the fog. Meanwhile that high green signal light clears the way for the next eastbound train…

1. Fog-filled scene on September 17, 2016: BNSF’s eastward controlled signal governing the west siding switch at Strong City, KS.

Thanks for looking!

Siding sign almost looks like a neon light.

You're getting good with the night photography.

It looks like an apparition.
