Eight days in January
Author: rrartist

For the past eight days I was without a card reader, so I could go out and photograph but had no way to display them until now. So buckle up, here is a taste of the Upper Midwest through my eyes on both sunny - cold, cloudy - mild days, the last eight days. Starting on Jan 12 with the BNSF H NTWGAL, BNSF 7205 and later that day the Q STPCHC, BNSF 7816.

On Jan 13, I ventured up to Winona MN to capture the UP Adams WI train on it's way east as it had a different SD40N leading, but before it departed I caught a CP 580 oil load with the NS 2612 leading. There must be a tad bit of snow further west! Now it was the UP's turn as LTA-42, UP 1868 charges through Homer MN and really messes up the snow and again in Dakota MN.

Jan 14,  I was up before the sun and tried out a different setting on my camera which attempts to capture movement with little or no light, CSXT 8736 passes in front of the Amtrak Depot with CP 687 while a short time later CP 580 rolled past with the CP 8863. The day dawned with abundant sun and only one train, CP 812, UP 7007 photographed just south of La Crescent MN.

Jan 15, Once again I was up way before the sun and tried the low light - no light function on the NS 8055 leading a eastbound oil load towards Grand Crossing, I like the function, but need more practice. CP 2219 leads train H20 past the Depot and on towards the yard to tie up. The sun was barely up for the BNSF 8402 and this eastbound Stacker just north of Genoa WI.

Here is another look at the BNSF 8402 and it's short Stack train just north of  Genoa WI. Fast forward to Jan 18 starting the BNSF 6952 with another Stacker bound for Chicago. The sun was higher for the U TNDNSD oil loads running behind the BNSF 9149.

Following the oil loads was the Q SSECHC with the BNSF 7739 leading the charge just south of La Crosse. As you can see we have one sunny day, then a cloudy day or a cloudy start which turns out sunny as with Jan 19 and CP 384, CSXT 3449 - SOO 6053 at Donehower MN. CP 3057 - SOO 4405 work the day CP switch job G72.

Lastly on Jan 19 I captured a nice CP 471 with the NS 6802 leading the CP 6262 - NS 9830, both variations of the EMD SD60M working the CP La Crosse yard. Last but not least, the UP Adams WI to Winona MN train rolled past behind the UP 1072. By the time I drove to the southside of town, it was cloudy once again. Thanks for riding along!

Great bunch, love the snow capped NS, amazing SOO's are still out there. You too are not afraid of either getting up EARLY or in the cold, nice job, worth the wait!
