This morning while I was pumping down my third cup of coffee I received a message that Amtrak #6 was running 8 hours late. The Trainorders fan network had come thru for me again. I quickly made plans to intercept it somewhere on Soldier Summit. By the time I got halfway up the hill to SS it was clear that at least a foot more snow had fallen since my last visit up here on Monday. The sky was completely overcast and the wind was blowing. Not a full ground blizzard but windy, cold and raw nonetheless. The only access to the tracks at Summit was the railroad road, which was badly drifted and the private access road at West Summit that gives access to the homes on the hills south of the tracks. This westernmost road was passable so I crossed the tracks and took up station to wait for #6. At 1:52PM #6 arrived at Summit with Amtrak #42, the Veterans unit leading and #156, the Phase I Heritage unit trailing it. I got my shot and then began the chase east down Price River Canyon towards Helper Yard and it’s next stop for passengers. Accessible shooting spots were few due to the snow, but I managed to get 5 useable ones in the generally fairly dark lighting. I got lucky and caught a sucker hole just above Lynn crossovers for some good light and the light at Helper was OK.  So here goes the first 3 of my 5 shots today. Two more shots below.

1. West switch Summit siding with the wind blowing hard. Thank God for image stabilization.
2. Kyune from the bridge over the tracks on the Emma Park road. The road was only plowed this far and was impassable beyond.
3. Lynn crossovers and the only good light of the day.

NIce shots.

Fresh snow makes for some nice scenes but as you mentioned hard to find parking spots with the omni present snow berms along the roadside.

Fantastic series, Dick. Glad you were able to get out and challenge the weather over Soldier Summit.
