This Monday morning we were back along the Union Pacific's Chester Subdivision at sunrise.

Several miles north of Chester, Illinois, the railroad crosses the Kaskaskia River near where the river joins the Mississippi.  I found myself wishing I had brought the sound equipment as the waterfowl were making quite a racket as the sun began to break the horizon... oh well, maybe next time?  No worries though, as shortly after we got our equipment out of the Blazer did the radio announce the approach of a northbound automotive train headed for Dupo.  Right on his tail was a local out of Chester, headed a few miles up the line with a couple of cars.

Following the two northbounds, we continued along the levy road to a park located at the Kaskaskia lock and dam.  It wasn't long before a single unit headed north with empty intermodal tables, and shortly the local headed south back to Chester with seven cars.  We caught one last train before leaving as a northbound empty coal train passed, heading back to the mines after leaving the transloading facility at Cora.

And some friends of mine kid me that I only shoot steam!
