Western Railroad Discussion > Unit Train at Fraser, CO, Feb 16, 2017

BNSF 9020, SD70ACe, led westbound Fryburg, North Dakota, to Salt Lake City, Utah, train U FYNSLC4 13a, unit UTLX oil train on UP's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision.  Fraser, CO, February 16, 2017.  Rare sight on the Moffat Road!  Train ran 3 x 2.

Interesting train, and a nice photo, thanks for posting.  

The routing of this train interests me.  Since Fryburg is west of Dickinson in western North
Dakota, would they rouute the train west to Billings/Laurel, then south through Casper
and Cheyenne to Denver, or would it go east via Northtown/Galesburg or Willmar/Sioux
City/Lincoln?  I'm thinking the first but with railroads you never know.

​There's a lot less traffic for the first option you mention, for sure. 

Gillette-Guernsey or Alliance-Sterling would seem most logical.

I was on CZ #6 we passed it at Radium. We held the main while the oil train took the siding.

This one ran Sheridan - Alliance - Sterling.

Thank you.  This would route west out of Fryburg to Huntley, MT, where it would head south 
through the coal lines to Denver.  Appreciate the info.
