Bealville Road washed out at Caliente
Author: DRGW3002

Was up on Tehachapi on Sunday and was surprised to see a road closed sign when turning off 58 onto Bealville Road.  Here is the reason why.

Tehachapi Creek and Caliente Creek are swollen to the point that a big chunk of the road is gone where the road crosses the creek. See photos 1 and 2 of a southbound UP train wrapping around the horseshoe and you'll see the road damage in the center.

A closer look and you'll notice that where Bealville Road passes under the mainline and joins up with Caliente Bodfish Road is now a new waterfall.

Take a look at photo 3 for a shot of a northbound BNSF train dropping downgrade and heading into the horseshoe past the new "Caliente Falls."

All three images are pretty killer, though I got to admit I like the third one the most.

Nice shots, and meteorological history repeats itself...
Caliente Falls has a nice ring to it.

The highway maintenance crews do have a problem keeping that road open during really wet seasons.

Great pix.

Cheers.

David, thanks for sharing some graphic shots.  Shades of '83.

Excellent.    Very fortunate to get this amount of rain and ground water.

What train is at the top of photo 1?  Amazing how you can see it with a drone.  Interesting angles you got!

Good eyes there mapboy! That train in the top left of image 1 is the same train you see in image 3. It was holding at Bealville just upgraded of Tunnel 2 waiting for the southbound UP train to march upgrade.

And thanks for the compliments everyone.

Great pictures David. How about some information on your drone and camera system?

I'm not too sure what "ground water" is.  Water flowing over the surface of the ground?

On the other hand, "groundwater" is the water that is stored in the ground below the water table.
