UP Heritage Paint Schemes Going Away?
Author: cornerfieldhobby

I rarely post on the Western Discussion, but I thought since UP is in the west, I would post here. Anyway, according to this forum, someone says Railfan & Railroad magzine mentions UP getting rid of the Heritage Units - http://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/up-ditching-the-heritage-paint-schemes?reply=71397234072007408#71397234072007408    I will say, I am surprised a little, but I recall last year someone mentioned this.

They are going to a contract shop for paint work. If they were going to be painted in standard UP paint, the UP has a perfectly capable paint shop in North Little Rock. Why would the UP send them to be painted by a contract shop if they were just going to be painted yellow.

Well maybe I'm wrong, but I only saw that post on that forum and read it. Anyway, will wait and see. Maybe, (just a joke), there getting another Heritage paint scheme.

UP 1982, 1983 & 1988 All At Mt. Vernon ILL
Author: cornerfieldhobby

Since I started the topic about the UP HU's maybe repainted, I looked up all of them and see UP 1982, 1983 & 1988 are in Mt. Vernon since January. 1983 mentioned in comment of be repainted. Mt. Vernon is a contract shop. Usually they take units to be painted into yellow to North Little Rock.

Mike, thanks for the link. So reading the comments on your topic, they are not repaint yellow with the flag on the side. So there actually repainting the HU's in there original Heritage Paint scheme. So no change, accept it'll look brand new on the outside.

Have you actually read that "News Item" in Ralfan & Railroad Magazine?  I have the issue right in front of me, and the title of the "News Item" is; "New Paint for Commemorative Units"! National Railway Equipment in Mount Vernon, ILL has already repainted #1982, and #1983.

Also, note that the individual that posted that miss-information on the OGR Real Trains Forum, as a long history of "strange posts". Tim is just a toy train kid in San Diego, Cal.

Originally, I seem to recall reading (in Trains magazine maybe?) that when UP announced their Heritage program, they intended to keep them in their heritage schemes for 10 years, then repainted in standard UP colors. Well, it's been well over ten years now and I doubt they're going away any time soon, or ever. Keep in mind UP was the first to start this "heritage unit" craze, perhaps at the time they thought it would just be a passing novelty. Now of course with several other railroads following suit (Amtrak, NS, IAIS, etc) UP would be stupid to repaint them.

Well, might not be "stupid" to repaint them considering how some foamers go ga-ga over them and try stupid shots of them. Imagine what their cab cameras have captured? Lawyers might have the final say:(

SD45X, I am not one of though's people. To tell you the truth I like to be farther away and like to get the side view of the engine. Example is recently of NS 4000 in Rootstown Ohio.

No, I mean I don't take photos where if a Heritage Unit or Special Unit is coming and I run right up to the tracks. I get my photos and video away from the tracks.

No, it wasn't.

Amtrak, Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe, Duluth Missabe & Iron Range, Metro North, New Jersey Transit, Western Pacific and Wisconsin Central all painted locomotives into heritage schemes well before Union Pacific debuted its heritage locomotives.

The phrase you're looking for is "those people".

I catch myself hoping that the MP unit will look like a MP SD40, circa 1971, the MKT unit being green and yellow, the WP being aluminum and orange like the GP35 delivery scheme...

May as well do something different, right??

Central Vermont painted 1 or 2 heritage GPs in the early 1970s.
