GEMCO Yard in Van Nuys, California

15 Pictures I took of Southern Pacific's GEMCO YARD from Conductor Bill Hatrick's Private Cars on Amtrak's Surfliner 1761 a few weeks ago.
And 3 pictures of me and Bill with his private cars.

Anyone have the scoop on what's taking place at Gemco?

And this is what I was doing on Conductor Bill Hatrick's Private Car's "The Overland Trail" and "The Pacific Trail".
I've been helping Bill when he has large crowds. This is a lot of fun! His "VINO TRAINS" are Awesome!

I figure the local hire ups where playing poker, and the loser had to redo Gemco Yard.......

Before I retired a few years back, the word was Gemco Yard might be rebuilt account of future traffic out of
Port Hueneme and the Ventura County Railroad. If traffic was to increse, Gemco would have to be rebuilt
to handle the influx of new business and traffic as a major support yard. One thing is for sure, Gemco's life
span has just been incresed! LOL

Yah that was on that list too, right behind pigs flying. Figured sooner or later when GM went that the
yard would be called "Gonco". Nice to have the crystal ball screw up once in a while.

Glad to see you're finally reading your orders! Only 43 years too late. Ellis Nighshwonger would be proud.

On a happy note, I'm glad to see you having some fun. Enjoy the ride Steve.
PS: I do remember operator Cornelius but can't seem to place where he frequented. Boooaard!!

Some track relocation was understood to be done for the true double tracking and new platform for the Amtrak Van Nuys Station.  This may include that work.

New ballast in such a yard is a rare addition, so cool!   Really enjoyed the pics.
Oh don't worry... my close-minded neighborhood knocked down any chance of double tracking in the Valley.   I tried!
