Grandma's Attic, revisited with pictures

Ok, Am at home now, here is the shot of BNSF GP39-3 2665 at Hastings Ne yesterday. Clearly shows the mod I am referring to. This is the only one I have seen so far.  I am guessing these are being done at Relco in Albia?  Ben

Some time back I was told by a UP technology manager from Omaha that one huge issue they have with "conventional cab" units is where to install the electronics for PTC. I'll bet this is BNSF's answer to that problem and perhaps UP and others might follow suit if it works.

I don't know the answer, but yes it looks like a place for PTC equipment.  There looks to be a conduit box extending down on the engineers side.

EMD Winnebago! Don't stop though: place a couple 102" whip antennae up there.

I don't mind them one bit, just wish they would paint it orange instead.

Yes, lets see just how ugly we can make an EMD look. Couldnt they mount that PTC crap in the nose?

Good information.  I caught BNSF 3017 northbound through Santa Fe Jct (KC) on 02/05/17.  At the time I wasn't sure of the function for the extra space, and I didn't see the vertical conduit.  Note the antenna mount is different.

Moving to MAC for new paint.  The conduit is there in front of the windows...just harder to see compared to the BNSF 2665.
