Western Railroad Discussion > Rawhide coal cars

Just heard that the cars for Rawhide energy plant(north of Fort Collins) Are being shipped to Springfield Mo. today. They were spotted in Alliance Nebraska today. Think they might have been re lettered. Maybe they are going in  for resell. Have to see if that train shows up with new rolling stock. For those that have never seen them, They were light tan body with dark brown on the rotary end.

They have been relettered HPTX, and there is a new set that just came from Alliance last night of Bethgons that have fresh RAWX reporting marks and had the Rawhide Symbol even though it orgined in Alliance

New cars for Rawhide!  They really got their money from the old steel cars.

Trains can be incorrectly symboled.  One day in Pueblo, CO, there was a coal load that was supposed to go to Iowa!  It was sent back north, with helpers, to Denver and beyond.

Those outside-braced cars are ideal to be repurposed to haul scrap because they are made of steel, the softer aluminum gets beat up too quickly in that service. Cut down and with a new top rail added, they also make fine gondolas. === === = === JLH
