The Last Train of Winter

Though it didn't feel the least bit like winter.
The crazy weather here in Kansas continued yesterday with record shattering, 90 degree highs. It cooled off enough in the evening to get out after a train that was making its way east on the KP under somewhat filtered sunshine. I shot the train 4 separate times before the sun retired for the day.

1) At my go to spot in which I seem to shoot about once a week, UP 5675 rolls east out of the Manhattan area at Swamp Angel Road with the ARLNSR in tow.

2) East of Wamego, the 5675 is rolling right along at the 40 MPH track speed, approaching another familiar spot, Airport Road.

3) With the train now out of Belvue, the sun dips behind a cloud bank at Schoeman Road.

4) The intermediate signal west of Rossville guards the oncoming train as the sun sinks below the horizon.

5) Minutes later the silent scene is shattered with the ARLNSR still charging towards Topeka and eventually the NS at Kansas City.

Thanks for looking!

In my recent foray around the eastern US I woke up one morning at some motel somewhere in Ohio with 4" of winter on Willie III (my rig). By mid-afternoon it had melted back to early spring. OK by me!  :^)

Oh yeah... FANTASTIC work, pardner! IOTD quality all the way...
