Western Railroad Discussion > TriClops at Eastman Chemical

I am told by another railfan this 6815 is referred to as a triclops.  I had not seen or ever heard
of these before Monday when I took this at the large Texas Eastman plant in Longview Tex.

This D9 in the second photo was on the opposite end of the UP diesel from the triclops.

That UP 4400 is an SD70M.

But NS 8616 is a Dash 9.

The other NS unit, under the cab number 8816 is written D9-40C

D9 is NS speak for "Dash 9" (And same for D8 = Dash 8)

so

D8-40CW = Dash 8-40CW
D9-40C = Dash 9-40C (The standard cab Dash 9, NS was the only road to get these)
D9-44CW = Dash 9-44CW (Built as D9-40CW @ 4000HP with the option (a key) to be turned up to 4400HP, which was done in the last few years and the units re-classed to show the boost in HP)
