KCS and Airhorns!
Author: txtrainman43

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that KCS seems to swap or play around with different horns? While I dont live anywhere near there mainlines, I see plenty of six-motored power on sand trains here in north Texas. I have heard (and seen) ES44Acs with K5LLAs and SD70Aces with the Gevo K5HL. One never knows what to expect on there SD70Macs! Yesterday I heard 3930 west with what MIGHT have been a very high pitched K5LAR! It was more (better chimmed) than the SD70Ace horn and seemed very loud.

All railroads "play" with airhorns. They're a required piece of equipment. So when one goes bad, if the shop doesn't have the "correct" spare available, they use what they have handy so they can get the unit back out on the road.
