The era of the searchlight signal on Donner Pass is coming to a close as UP 8576 leads a manifest through Andover in the last light of day. Today, although this signal bridge still stands, these signals have been out of service for several years - Norden is now the only place on the Hill where searchlight signals still govern movements.

Great shot. So do these signals pictured stay lit? They just don't indicate anything?

No. This shot is from several years ago. Today, the signals, if they are even still there at all, are cocked sideways and aren't connected to anything.

James, your ability to create such meaningful photographs is remarkable but what is nearly impossible for me to imagine is how you get to these places especially in winter! Great job!!
