Chasing the "Chewie" BNSF Kettle Falls Sub
Author: tsokolan

At the end of February myself and a few freinds decended upon the Spokane WA area for a few days of railfanning. Over the course of two mornings we chased the southbound Chewelah Turn on BNSF's Kettle Falls Sub. With two members of out group spending a night in Chewleah, the rest of us (based out of Spokane) were kept somewhat up to date with the train's location, which was a big help since there are a few places where the tracks are not viable from the highway.

#1 On the first day of our chase, we came very close to missing out on the southbound run due to an earlier than anticipated start time for the crew. South of Deer Park WA, the local bends through an S curve.

#2 Day 2 greeted us with sunny skies and an excelent motive power consist of 2 GP38-2's bracketting three GP60B's. Here we meet up with the southbound at Springdale

#3 I really dig these extra large station name signs on the BNSF! .

#4 Near Denison WA our group had now grown to include 5 Caandian and 5 American railfans. As the crew commented "The foam is thick on the Kettle Falls Sub today!"

#5 The engineer cracks the throttle for the benifit of the fans at Clayton

#6 One last sunny winter shot near Buckeye

Love the older power. Thank you for sharing. I think TO needs a discussion board titled "Loon Lake" :)
