Sleepers for ?? definitely not the Executives...
Author: docgrommesh

Caught this train the other day.  It is on a crossover track in Olathe, KS that allows trains in the Ft. Scott Sub to get over to the Emporia Sub before it gets into Kansas City, KS so it will enter the West side of Argentine Yard.

Reading the sides of these Mobile Homes on a flat car we have a cooks car, 7 person sleeper, 4 person sleeper, and a locker car.  I am guessing these are not for the Executives...lol

Maybe not for executives, but a huge leap forward from the outfit cars of the 40's, 50's and 60's.

I bet so!  They really do look pretty nice.  I did notice A/C units!

I've been told a dome and a veranda on the same car along with sleeping and eating areas are the best accommodations. Not sure we're talking the same kind of dome though.

I assume being on CP Rail flatcars that they might be new or renovated camp cars being delivered to CP in Kansas City?

Reminds me of the late Utah Phillips and "Good Though". (Dr. Demento fans will be familiar with this yarn)

Puts a whole new meaning to the "Locker" car... the "Sleeper" car... and I was wondering why they didn't call it the "Diner" Car  :0

Can these cars be occupied while in motion?  Or only when set out on a siding.

Thanks for sharing, I haven't seen any of these since roaming the desert of BC in 1997.

I've not seen this style of outfit car used on CP in Canada, but have seen similar cars on the mining railways of northern Quebec (with the overhang roofs on the end of the trailer).

The CP number is correct for company service flat cars, and they appear to be re-purposed piggyback (TOFC) 89 ft foot flats, the same used on outfit trains in Canada.

CP stopped using similar trains for track workers about ten years ago.

Make about three stories tall and wider and out of wood and they would look like the
usual run of business on the GN and the CP when they were building the two lines.

The NS camp cars I saw were a long line of sleepers and the only ones used at the Ithaca New York secondary when
they did a massive upgrade to replace ties, cut out bad rail and do repair and drainage work before the coal market broke down.
They plugged into the 480-600 volt three phase power all weather disconnect in the yard that powers the car hoe that is/was there.
