Near Solitude, UT

After a stop at Elba, UT
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4257040

I headed west to a hill near MP 545 on UP's Green River sub. The first time I was near this location, there was DRGW power on the point of a MRODV. But this past Friday, the train I went to photograph was the CWEIP-22 with a set of matched aluminum hoppers and fairly clean engines on both ends of the train. After a slow climb to Thompson and a stop at Floy for Amtrak #5 to run around them, the crew and their train are heading down to Green River, UT about 10 miles west of here before starting the next climb. These three photos are of the train approaching MP 545.

Thanks for looking.

Very fine composition built around the near stark foothllls and distant green mountains. I wonder if a digital haze filter could be used to bring a richer color to the evergreen trees?

Nice train, too.

I do believe that "Solitude" was appropriately named.

Anyone who's spent time out there knows how hard photos like this are to pull off. These are some of the coolest UP era photos I've seen from out there. Can't believe there's some old signals still barely in service either. Thanks for sharing.

I used to be out in that area fairly frequently.  The color rendition on the photo is very accurate to what the scene actually looks like.  By the way, those are the La Sal Mountains in the distance.  They sit just west of the Colorado-Utah border near Moab.
