Western Railroad Discussion > Three westbounds near Oro Grande Sunday morning

An effort to elude the clouds in the LA basin landed me in Oro Grande Sunday morning. Oro Grande is small community located about 5 miles east of Victorville on BNSF's Cajon Subdivision. Most of the traffic this morning was eastbound even though the sun angle favored westbounds, here are a few "down on" results.

1) From the rock cut at East Oro Grande, BNSF 6614 is leading a Z-train with H-1 GE 964 as the last unit. Old Heritage I Dash-9's are very unusual here in Southern California.

2) With the CalPortland cement plant in the background, a near soild set of set of SD70ACe's (UP 8638/8781/8581) except for trailing GE 7730 on a long stack train. The desert colors are still holding up well from all the rain we've had.

3) Shot from the same location, Amtrak's Southwest Chief was running about five hours late with the standard two units and nine cars. 

Nothing too out of the ordinary but at least I accomplished my goal by finding sunshine. As always, thanks for looking.

Even if "nothing too out of the ordinary," that's the essence of railfanning. Great stuff, Bob, and on occasion, I've gone out toward Victorville to try to catch the "last" train before heading to the airport.
